Trip To Alaska Page 2
Day 3 Reno, NV to Wells, NV Friday 31 March 2006
Miles Traveled 331
I-80 East, Reno to Wells 331 Miles
Is it ever going to stop raining on the West Coast? The rain started just East of Sparks and pretty much stayed the course all day, alternating between annoying sprinkles to a downpour. There was a good side to the rain though. I am no longer searching for an RV wash! The heavy rain did a very good job.
Reno to Wells runs between an altitude of 4000 to 5000 ft with a couple of summits reaching 6000 or close to it. And yes, it snowed again on the summit, this time at at Golconda. The snow plow was out on the Interstate but he must have been kidding, not enough snow remained on the road to make a snowman. However, look at the snow clouds in these four pictures, the possibility was there.

Stopped for the overnight at Angel Lake RV Park. Close to the Freeway and very friendly folks. You can see the above sign easily from the freeway. A little on the sparse side but super convenient if all you want is a place to park with full hookups and cable TV. A brand new place with gravel parking but it is level.
Not much going on in Wells and besides it is too cold to go exploring this evening. Well, the thermometer reads 42 degrees but that is without the 30 knot wind factored in.
The Ace Hardware heater has paid for itself already and is keeping me toasty warm again this evening. Low 40's with a wind from the mountains.

Wow, as I sit here writing this the trailer is rocking from the wind. The trailer is still hooked to the truck, I don't unhitch for quick overnight stops. I did notice that the Nevada Interstate rest stops allow for 18 hours maximum stay. More than enough time for a good nights rest if you want to dry camp at the rest stop and don't mind the engine noise from idling diesel big rigs all night. Cheaper than Wal-Marting unless you don't pay a visit to the store!
Tomorrow's plot calls for swinging North here at Wells and taking Highway 93 to Twin Falls, Idaho and then picking up I-84, I-86, I-15 and then on to Idaho Falls for the evenings stop. Making good time and should have a few days to explore Calgary.
